Lake Boga- eye candy!!

Isn't it funny how our perspective change all the time .. Our perspectives on everything; clothes we wear ( you know that dress you just had to buy and only wore once ), the food we eat and the music we listen too. It all has to do with our changing preferences and things we decide we don't like and all of a sudden do! It also has to do with the amount of attention we pay to things, especially those things in our every day lives that we tend to take for granted.
You’re probably wondering what Lake Boga has to do with any of this. Lake Boga is a small town on a big highway situated (you guessed it !) right on Lake Boga. We have a small holiday house at nearby Lake Charm and Lake Boga is on the way into town for us. Every Summer of my life I have driven through Lake Boga on our way to Swan Hill to shop and as a child go to the movies on a hot day. Now one day the way I perceived the town changed it turned from a scary deserted town into such a cool spot! Every time I have driven through Lake Boga for the last two years I’ve said to myself one day I will stop and take some photos here, I love it ! And every drive through I've noticed more and more cool things.. “Look at that cactus on the fence" ! (If you haven't already you’ll soon find out how much I love cacti!!) Now on my most recent drive through the town I noticed this run down old building for the first time and oh my god it has cacti growing out of the roof !!! That was it “this time I will stop and take those pictures” and I did! Im so glad I did because what I found was much more than I expected!!!! You can probably tell from the pictures I could not contain my excitement running around like a little child who’s discovered real life fairies ! I keep asking myself over and over again how did I not see this amazing place before on the many drives to Swan Hill I have had over the last few weeks and the whole of my life !!
Anyway this was supposed to be a photo journal so I’ll stop talking now but I just had to share with you the overwhelming feeling of excitement that I can not contain about this old building !!! My Mum sat in the car rolling her eyes as I practically sprinted around the site! I think it would make a great place for a fashion editorial to be set (if anyones interested let me know !) haha
Hope you fall a little bit in love with this place just like me…Who am I kidding I’m obsessed !
PS; next time I promise to hold back on the exclamation marks.. well at least try)

FRIDA

Well Frida Kahlo…. Wow..wow...wow! Need I say more ?! Even now some 60 years after her death she is still well known as an inspiration to many including myself !! The story of Frida brings out the feminist side to me and how could it not ? The things she achieved in her life in that time were extraordinary for a man to do let alone a woman!! I find her so awe inspiring because not only did she conquer the world of art, but her self determination was absolutely gobsmacking !!! The dedication she proved to her artwork was amazing. Kahlo began painting after a streetcar accident that left her with spinal and hip fractures making her bed ridden for months on end. The majority of her work are self portraits portraying her physical and emotional sufferings. Her work is now described as traditional Mexican folk artwork (don’t you love the word folk? I do ).

Frida was constrained to full body casts most of her life after the accident as her core was too weak too hold herself up otherwise and do you know what Frida did?! She took to painting her casts in beautiful whimsical patterns and colours. Nothing ever beat Frida.  This brings me to another reason I love Frida … her style !! The way she presented herself often was a blur of colour and fantastic textiles. Frida’s style and artwork still inspires creatives all over the world and there is lots of Frida inspired art  and fashion .. See below. At nearly 60 years after her death she even rocked the front cover of Vogue!

So as you can see there is a lot more to Frida than meets the eyes … even if what meets the eyes happens to be absolutely tremendous. And as you can tell I adore her and everything about her the colours in her clothing alone ! Utter Mexican madness .. In a good way of course! Until next time,
Hooroo! xxxx

A NEW YEAR

My names is Maggie McDonald and I'm a 16 yr old student. As it is the beginning of a new shiny year I decided it was the time for me to start a shiny new blog. Now I am very new to this blogging thing so you'll have to forgive me while I get into the swing of things ! So here goes!
Here is a sneak peek of what my sketchbook is looking like at the moment.. I am loving playing around with bold colours and different mediums being thrown together ! I have recently discovered how much the music I listen too effects the choices I make whilst painting/drawing/creating? (I don't really know what I'll call it ... Maybe doodling?)

As an example I did this collage whilst listening too and the likes of Tame Impala's upbeat groovy  'Feels like we only backwards' I feel like I made bolder bigger choices in colour and shapes.
Whereas this picture I started off listening to the amazing Lisa Mitchell's 'Wah Ha' and DD Dumbos 'I woke up covered in sand'. The colours were quiet, relaxed and subtle until I ended up adding the sparkling purple ! I don't really know what happened there ... I just had to add some glitter but let's blame it on a sudden song change .. Please

Whilst I was doing this doodling?( is this the right word .. Help me !) My very gorgeous little brother created his own version of this doodling also, inspired by what I was doing. Evidently he also likes a big splash of glitter! I must say he is a bit of a copy cat, even as I sit writing this he is sitting with his head on my knees I can tell you it is a very awkward position to be in even if a little flattering!

So there you go my first try at blogging ! I hope it is bearable and hopefully even the slightest bit enjoyable? So thank for bearing with whilst I embark on a new thing for the new year ! I hope everyone else's 2015 is going well and I wish you all the best ! xxx
